About Your Teacher

Hello, my name is Kenneth Klaus and I have been teaching at PACS since the 2017-2019 school year. I have taught Algebra 1 and Geometry in this time at PACS. Prior to that, I was a student teacher at New Open World Academy in Koreatown, and a substitute teacher in LAUSD, Glendora USD, and Azusa USD. I am a double bruin; I hold two bachelors in art and linguistics, as well as a masters in education, from UCLA.

You may be surprised to learn that I am a math teacher who majored in art. I became a math teacher as a result of my experiences substitute teaching. My mother is also a teacher; she is a credentialed English, math, and science teacher. Her influence helped me to decide to become a math teacher. I was a substitute teacher for several years; When you are a substitute teacher, you go where you are sent, and do your best to help students at all grade levels. My experiences teaching math as a substitute showed me the importance of supporting diverse learning styles and modeling life-long learning.

My goal is to help students who struggle with math and to represent and celebrate diverse approaches to problem solving. Due to my arts background, I am a visual problem solver, and love to use diagrams and drawings to help explain problems. I know that many people struggle with confidence; in my classroom, I hope to support everyone to solve problems and do math in their own ways, valuing creativity, perseverance, and effort.
