good afternoon families and Welcome to our 2020 school year tax orientation my name is actor Morales and the principal Performing Arts community school and we are very excited to welcome you to this new school year our mission at packs is to ensure that our students are prepared for College and Career while also exploring their interest in the Arts our vision the way that we plan to accomplish that mission is to ensure that every student engages in the rigorous and meaningful educational program in Grace 9 through 12 we will be discussing important information today so please take a moment to review the agenda this information is information that will be posted on our website and we will we will be providing more details in the coming days but it's meant to be more of an overview about the different events and announcements that are coming in the next few days let's take a moment to welcome all of our support staff that are here to provide support to our families and our students good afternoon my name is Esther Vargas and I'm going to be your assistant principal I'm very excited about support Rogers High School Journey Rudy's everybody my name is Mr jabami I would I am one of the two counselors and working specifically with our 9th and 11th grade students when is Ramon Mendez time the 10th and 12th grade counselor for this academic school year hi welcome to my name is Maria Escobar and I am the TST advisor my name is Antonia Guzman I am the intervention coordinator I work closely with parents teachers and ministers social workers and everybody else that's invested in your educational process mr. Medina unfortunately is not able to make this meeting but he is our Bridge coordinator who will be supporting our special education population reading my name is mrs. Doris and I'm packs restorative justice advisor looking forward to a fantastic year time is Puyol and I am the pupil services in attendance Town Square hi everyone my name is Jose and I'm your counselor and I'll be working with all of you to make sure that you get the finish line and get your graduation and the phone licensed therapist my name is Justin Cole again I am this year will be your student support of programs counselor Services students were in specialized populations welcome and I am excited and look forward to working with you all rates of thank you everyone and once again Welcome to our orientation so I packed construction is our number one priority you want to make sure that our students are at we are completing our mission and vision and the send Mission Vision revolves around writing every opportunity that we cancel that our students are competitive and are engaging in a rigorous program rigorous instruction of program we have for instructional really leave the work that we do we want to make sure that all of our students are engaging in grade level standard space assignments that they are engaging in rigorous assignment at appropriate for third grade that our students are also being offered the opportunity to engage in curriculum that's differentiated and that its state of driven and also that I'm going to English language Learners or provide support and structures that they need in order to be able to master the English language in addition to that we wanted to make sure that a sign is new about her first day of school is August 18th schedules will be printed excusing schedules will be posted on to schoology no later than Friday August 14th so it's important that our students check their school EDH so that they know what classes they will be taking I'm in addition to that if there are any questions regarding schedule please feel free to reach out to our to academic counselor message abomey who supports knife 11th grade and mr. Mendez who support I also asked the families and students please monitor our packs website X5.. Org / we will be providing additional information about how students will engage instruction on August 18th and August 19th August 20th will be the first day that students will engage in instruction with their teachers in a synchronous manner meaning that they will need on a virtual platform with every single. But August 18th and 19th they will engage an independent work online as you may we have we will begin Distributing technology for a 9th graders beginning Wednesday August 12th so this is the schedule again please check our website so that you can get information regarding when ninth-graders will be invited to come onto campus and pick up a device we will also be offering an opportunity for students who already have a device I need to exchange it for a different one to come onto campus and exchange that device so again please check our website for more information and please make sure that you're taking it regularly as information is being updated I'm going to hand it over to mr. Guzman who will talk a little bit more about Friday August 14th on Friday August 14th from 12 to 2 p.m. we will be adding devices to any incoming down 11 and 12 grade students maybe didn't receive one last year last semester and that will be again from 12 to 2 p.m. now we're going to move on to textbooks we're trying to do our best to use ebooks possible if you have if we have the opportunity to give you access to an ebook for any particular class we will we're going to distribute books for those class that we do not have ebooks and please stay stay tuned updated by checking the packs Pride. Org website or further details so a lot of our textbooks are available online through schoology and we will Distributing students those textbooks as a resource for textbooks as well some of our books like mr. was mindset are not available on Schoology should I take it come out and pick up a textbook where necessary and please welcome mr. Mendez okay so the sky in front of you some money proposed schedule for intervention it's not finalized yet but in the event that would you go with the schedule is scheduled for post and so that we can provide intervention during the day for your child so all the intervention classes will be will be embedded in the instructional day according to this schedule next message Emmanuel talk about the next phase of the week regarding our schedule thank you he was our tentative schedule for the rest of the week each day schedule will be broken up into. 1 3 5 and 7 and the other day will be 246 an advisory support days the day time for each. Are synchronous which are real-time instruction with your teacher and classmates you will also have a synchronous coursework outside of the regular school hours this will be time for your homework project setting for exams in reviewing your class notes advisory. Org need a ticket to our school can contact you as soon as possible thank you hello we're asking the parents sign up for the parent portal when you sign up for the parent portal you will be able to monitor attendance monitor your students grades and a timing update emergency contacts progress and the USS Maine results there's also other things that you can be here create an account go to the LA unified Parent Portal app. dinette Parent Access from there you click on parent log-in click on register in order to register you will need an email address later on we will be holding Zoom meetings and we will be reaching out to parents should you need any assistance with signing up next we have Miss Cleo I'm here to talk about the importance of attendance so attendance is required everyday even while you are distance learning so that means showing up to all of your schoology classes every day and on time to also put them in your class work your attendance will be for every class so it is important to attend all of your classes are going to have students attend school 96% of the time that means no more than seven absences in a school year if you are absent you are required to send then you will be marked as truant and if you have excessive amount of truancies there are some consequences for you and your parents 96% because it will be written into your contract and remember attendance matters we are looking forward to a great and awesome school here sorry I'm mr. Mendes important dates for seniors in Port signing up for sat on the test of first test date is August 29th so you must register before the first test the next test for the SAT is September 26th 2020 and the last opportunity October 3rd 2020 following is an act test ACT test registration deadlines August 14th for that test and the test is September 12th the second test is all on October 10th 2020 make sure your parents field files for the 2019 tax return on the application opens the first day of the month in October now for UC applications applications open the first day of the month August 1st recommendations that we have for you is not to have some type of a person inside I'm sorry answers to the questions that are going to be asked of you second California State University application if you're thinking about applying for EOP it's recommended you access to teachers I can recommend you for EOP application for EOP opens their first day of the month October 1st private schools now they have their own way of operating so we ask that you please start researching those schools find out what are what it takes to apply for schools in the deadlines so you can move forward to support you with this process so please I'm go ahead and keep you state the mind I reach out of you have any help I need any help thank you next up is mr. jabami academic counselor for 9th and MLB all recovering going over how to be eligible for graduation thank you you see clearly I will you be eligible for graduation in especially for a senior is but it's goes everybody the question you need to be asking all yourself all the time take a look at the basic Pathways to graduation graduation will be based on the number of credits you earn and specific courses in your four years with us. about the specific courses as mr. Mendes and I will work with you throughout your time to make sure you have access to these classes for any course you fail or on Addie we will make plans for you to recover grades and credits either during preschool or summer school the best policy is to earn at least a c in every class so you do not have to worry about recovering anyting igps are individual graduation plans where we will meet with you your 4-year graduation plan more details on your individual individual plan will be discussed once we get started with the semester Performing Arts Community School students have enjoyed a High graduation rate in recent years I'll be part of keeping up with this tradition next we'll have Miss origin sale thank you mister jabon me I guess everyone my name is insult just building off of a lot of what a mister jabami have already discussed regarding graduation I'm here as an additional support to you guys can ensure that every single one of you is enrolled engaged and on track to graduate on time so what are some of the things that I can do for you during my time here review your graduation requirements just discussed and also provide credit check to make sure that you're on trial linking you to appropriate credit recovery program hopefully you guys won't need that but if you do we do have plenty of support available on off campus and support your transition of two from high-school to college and then also in the midst of everything that we're going through some of you may be feeling overwhelmed some also here to provide an understanding and supportive ear to listen to and so my contact information is on mice live as though if you ever I need a support I would like to know that you're on track feel free to reach out to me and I hope to hear from you guys off to next I'm going to turn it over to miss cat Springer who will be think about some of the social and emotional supposed to be offered on hi there psychiatric social worker how to make a doomsday with tracking in a really challenging time and switching to Virtual learning to be a card that you all need to focus on my really want to love you student staff and families I can provide individual video conference sessions own sessions in any resources I'm a make a resources more but you can find it on the Pax Sky. Springer my name is Justin Cole and I'm excited to return to text or another year as your student support programs counselor support programs when you hear that that's just what that is we provide supports for students who are in foster care for students who are experiencing homelessness and Ferrara juvenal returning students as well so some of the supports that we provide for these specialized populations are our foster youth leadership and empowerment Council or we meet once a month this year the school year when students are selected will be meeting virtually once a month and with this Leadership Council focuses on is empowering our students to advocate for themselves it focuses on building fishing ships we've discussed academics which is in making sure students are on track to graduate we have guest speakers and in the past we've done field trip so it's a good collaborative group where students can build social skills and build confidence we also provide support through DCFS encouraging students to know who their DCFS workers are and linking them to services that they might need through their DCFS social worker structures their Independent Living Program Coordinator in different Bridge supports that they may need as well we have we can link you to the emergency housing and the centerpiece of what we do is advocating for the rights of all students also work very closely with I missed a springer and listen to y'all for the attendance component to make sure that students that aren't that they're on track their own gauge they're engaged and they're prepared and ready to learn we want to know their stuff The Graduate and be at 96% attendance thank you and we look forward to seeing you all my name is the store swollen and I am yours what is that mean well first of all I'm involved in classrooms to help a meeting Community Building circle now in our environment that means that I'll be working in your buy three classes during our distance learning to conduct virtual I also work on school positive behavior support and intervention so I will be creating different groups on school or students and parents so please be on the lookout for those things I'm also I work with teachers very closely to support them and their restorative practices I assist also our team with your two Witcher 3 intervention restorative practices and parent engagement be safe be responsible and be respectful do all that we're going to have a thank you so much next we're going to go back to missing part I wanted to point out that we do have technical support available if you're experiencing any issues the fur me to contact the LUSD itd help desk at 213-443-1300 we also have asked Pride. Org our website where you can go to the parents click on the parents have and then go to remote technical support fill out a form and someone will get back to you to resolve your issue so throughout this time we will you are our very best communicate with families as often as possible families please update your information I provide us with correct contact information our website X5. Org landing page where you can update your information give us currents telephone numbers and email addresses so that we can make sure that we get out any announcements or any news to you in a timely manner do that we will be contacting you via blackboardconnect so those are the robocalls so if you see the number please pick it up cuz it's likely a message from the school about information that's important for you to know students who we will be communicating with you via schoology Bruce and so will provide a face that Avenue we also plan on having Town Hall meetings specifically neck sweet so again please visit our website as that is the main hub for information we will also have dates published soon for coffee with the principal where parent ask questions and I'll be provided with resources as well and information about what's happening I'm in addition to that our office staff our teachers and our support staff will also be getting with families via telephone when necessary and we still use a snail mail so we will be sending information out when necessary by the post office lastly our office is now open between 8 and 3:30 p.m. or a distance support so please feel free to call Miss Cunningham our office tickets available to take question number is 323-846-2637 and again please visit our website at tax pride.
